A police spot check is the reason a 33 year old man stepped on the gas to escape the long arm of the arm of the law last night, only to wind up in custody.
Police pulled a vehicle over on Chesley Drive around 8 o'clock and the driver fled as the officer left his vehicle.
Police could not pursue due to traffic, and the vehicle slammed into a van on the Reversing Falls Bridge.
There were two adults and two children in the van, and the 27 year old mother was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The driver was arrested for reckless driving, and police say he sped off because of an existing warrant.

It will be a tense weekend for all those living in the Greater Sussex Area. The Region B Health Authority has shut down the Emergency Department at the Sussex Health Center because there is no doctor to cover off the shift today and into tomorrow. That means the ER is closed to all emergencies between 10:30pm tonight and eight o’clock tomorrow morning.

If you require emergency service, dial 911 or make your way to the Regional here in Saint John or one of the two hospitals in Moncton.
