Fire in Grand Bay Westfield

It took Grand Bay Westfield fire crews nearly four hours to put out a fire at a camp yesterday afternoon.

Fire crews responded to the blaze in the wooded area off the Britain Road to find a building fully involved in flames.
There was no one home, and no injuries in the incident, and still no word on what sparked the fire.

Breast Health Care Centre Heading To Moncton

The Dr. Georges Dumont Hospital in Moncton is getting some funding from the provincial government to estbalish an integrated breast health centre.

The province is kicking in nearly $3 million dollars in total to set up shop to help with operational costs and for equipment.
The hospitals foundation will also be spending $3.1 million dollars to purchase a diagnostic MRI machine.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer, and is the second leading cause of death of women in this province.

Saint John Board Of Trade Supports Keeping CBS Distribution Centre

The Saint John Board of Trade is backing the push to keep the blood distribution center here in Saint John. As you've heard, Canadian Blood Services has a proposal on the table to move the center out of Millidgeville and down to Dartmouth. President Imelda Gilman tells CHSJ News, from a business perspective, keeping the center in Saint John is a solid decision.

Premier Graham has told CBS officials the Province is willing to pick up the cost of an expansion at the current facility in Millidgeville. CBS says it will meet with the Health Minister next month to discuss the proposal.

Brush Cutting Dispute

A Dispute over of Brush-cutting services is brewing. Earlier this week, MLA Jack Carr said the Provincial government cut one-third of the roadside brush cutting budget and it was making roads in his riding New Maryland-Sunbury West dangerous. Transportation Minister Denis Landry says the Graham Government is taking care of brush cutting in the province.
Landry says the government maintains over 18-thousand kilometres of road in the province and work to keep high and medium traffic areas safe which he says is a reasonable approach.

Saint Johners Running For A Good Cause

Two Saint John men will take part in the New York City marathon next month as part of Team Fox-actor Michael J. Fox's charity for Parkinson's Research.
Chris Grannan and Mike McPartland are two of the Canadians on the 125-member team.
Grannan says the training is intense.
The two men take part in the New York City Marathon on November 1st.

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

This may be hard to believe but preparations are underway for this years edition of the Santa Claus Parade. It's the 57th year for the fall season staple and Uptown Saint John is putting out the call for anyone interested to get involved. Spokes-person Leslie Keating tells CHSJ News, this years theme is Christmas in Movies and Books and it's booked for Nov.14th.
