District Six Enrolment Drop

The drop isn't huge but enrolment numbers, with the exception of the Kennebecasis Valley, are down right across the board in District Six. In Sussex, the total number of students is 2474 which is down 71 bodies from last year. In the area which covers, Hampton, Bellisle and the Kingston Peninsula, total enrolment sits at 2576 which is down 47 seats from last year. Eight new students are taking up a seat in the KV with total enrolment standing at 5122. The entire district sits at 10,172 which is down 110 students from 2008.

Spyglass Hill

A Rothesay resident is hoping to prevent any development from happening at Spyglass Hill. Nick Gresh says the proposed municipal plan changes the zoning from low density to moderate density. Gresh says he would hate to see Rothesay lose the green space. There are over 13 hundred people on the facebook site started by Gresh to protest any development at Spyglass hill.

Possible Lower Taxes

The Commissioner of Finance will be going over the provincial tax assessment base impact at tomorrow nights council meeting. The province is suggesting Saint John lower its tax rate by 5 cents. Greg Yeomans will be presenting how the proposed tax rate was calculated, and what impact adopting the suggestion will have on the 2010 budget. This topic will be up for discussion at tomorrow nights meeting getting started at 6:30 in the council chambers.
