It's been in the works for two years and today, the Fundy Region Solid Waste Commission is celebrating Earth Day in a big way. It's electricity-producing generator has arrived from Austria.
The generator will produce green energy from landfill gas, the first for an operating landfill in Atlantic Canada.
General Manager Mark MacLeod tells CHSJ News, this goes a long way in reducing their carbon foot-print.
The project is set to produce 1 MegaWatt of electricity beginning in July which is equivalent to the energy used in 800 to 1,000 homes.
