Dramatic Rescue in Saint John Harbour

A dramatic rescue yesterday afternoon by city police and fire crews.

A man plunging over the side of the Harbour Bridge and into the murky water below.

Police and fire lined the waterfront eyeballing the man in order to guide the Coast Guard rescue boat.

The swift current pulling the man down the river and into the harbour where he was located near Water Street.

Crews able to launch a boat and pull the man from the water with a rope and a life ring, before transferring him to the Saint John Regional Hospital.

City police say the Harbor Bridge was closed for about a half an hour because of the situation.

They estimate the man was in the water for about fifteen minutes before crews could reach him.
