City Recognizes Local Volunteers

The city giving out two Merit Awards to volunteers working in the city's priority neighbourhoods.

Tammy Calvin being recognized for her work with O.N.E. Change and Juanita Black receiving an award for her work in Crescent Valley.

Black tells CHSJ News she hopes receiving the award brings more attention to the neighbourhood.

She says it's not just her, but a team of people working in the community.

Black says for a few years someone was damaging their bus shelter but the community kept scrapping it off until they left it alone.

She says helping out is about taking a stance, and if it helps your community than that's great.
