Rural Clinic Stopping Emergency Service

The rural communities in and around Black's Harbour could soon lose emergency service at their only medical clinic.

Doctors at the Fundy Health Center in Black's are objecting to Horizon Health charging them $1.50 for every patient they see--and the clinic will end emergency service by December 1rst.

MLA Rick Doucet tells CHSJ News closing the clinic would spell disaster for those who don't have a family doctor, because many of the fish plant workers in those communities are immigrants and don't have family connections to physicians.

30,000 people use the clinic each year, and the Mayors of Black's and Saint George are meeting with doctors and others to fight the change. If service at the Fundy Health Center ends, closest clinics will be in Saint John and Saint Stephen.
