Effort Will Be Made to Restore Beach in Passamaquoddy Bay

A big beach cleanup will be taking place Saturday in Passmaquoddy Bay at Simpson Island.

Andrew Holland of the Nature Conservancy tells CHSJ News the island may be uninhabited but there's alot of garbage on the beach including old fishing nets that have to be removed because birds can get caught up in that and both birds and fish can choke on the plastic styrofoam.

Holland says they're hoping to gather enough garbage to fill from 90 to 150 big bags despite the fact the island is uninhabited.

The volunteers for the cleanup are meeting at the Stuart Town Wharf on Deer Island and then taking a boat trip to the island for the cleanup between 10 and 4.
