People Without Power Told To Talk To Their Insurance Agent

If your power has been off for a prolonged period of time, you should be talking to your insurance agent because you could be covered for damage caused.

John Bordignon is with State Farm Insurance and tells CHSJ News a lot of people stocked up on food for Christmas and some policies could cover the cost of food that spoils. He also says try not to open up your fridge or freezer when you have no power.

Bordignon says the standard homeowners policy covers you for damage caused by falling trees along with removal of the tree itself and some comprehensive auto insuranace policies will cover damage caused by falling trees on your vehicle.

He advises also you to unplug your electronics because when the electricity is restored you could experience a power surge that will cause permanent damage.
