28 Year Old Arrested In Child Porn Case

 28-year-old Elisipogtog First Nation man will be facing charges after a seizure of child sexual abuse images.

On April 16, 2013, the RCMP in Elsipogtog executed a search warrant at a home on the reserve. Police seized computer equipment containing pictures of children being sexually abused.

The 28-year-old man was arrested and later released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on September 11.

Eight Candidates Seek Empty Ward 3 Seat

8 people are seeking to fill the empty seat representing Ward 3.
 

The Elections NB website shows 8 names including Brian Boyd, Barbara Ellemberg, Allen Leslie and Gerry Lowe.

A few of the names are known from previous elections like Michelle Hooten, Graeme Stewart-Robertson, Anne-Marie Mullin and Mark Leblanc.

Voters in Ward 3 go to the polls on May 13th.

Time To Talk To Your Doc About Vaccines

Partners in Protection is the theme of this year's Immunization Awareness Week.....and doctors, nurses and pharmacists are working together to make sure everyone in New Brunswick has the shots they need to protect themselves from disease.

The World Health Organization is also holding World Immunization Week . The goal of both observances is to help stamp out preventable diseases.

The province is urging New Brunswickers to talk to their doctors and pharmacists about what immunizations they are eligible to receive, or perhaps should have received already. Immunization awareness week runs until April 27.

Grass Fires On The Rise This Time Of Year

It's that time of year when tulips are poking out and the City fire department is hopping with grass fires.
 

Divisional fire chief Gerald Green tells CHSJ News multiple grass fires at one time stretch resources thin should a structure fire come in.

He says it's taking fire crews away from unplanned emergencies adding sometimes they are inundated with dozens sometimes hundreds of calls this time of year.

Green says while the number of grass fires has gone down in recent years they do need to get the message out that they are illegal and just plain stupid when set on purpose.


Job Cuts At Horizon Just The Beginning According To CUPE

The Canadian Union of Public Employees is claiming the Horizon Health Network is looking to cut 4 per cent of its workforce which would be from 400 to 500 jobs.

131 job cuts have been announced but Ralph McBride, provincial co-ordinator for CUPE local 1252, tells CHSJ News that's just the beginning of the reductions because Horizon still has to reduce its budget by almost 14 million dollars and it's that amount which has healthcare workers so anxious.

McBride warns if frontline workers are cut then patient care will be adversely affected.  
Provincial Health Minister Ted Flemming argues health care should not be used to create jobs and McBridge counters that by saying it isn't because each of his members has a specific role to play to keep the system functioning.

Youth Center Outside Of Sussex To Get Major Upgrades

A community center just outside of Sussex is going to be getting some major upgrades. The Waterford Youth Center is getting nearly $50,000 dollars worth of renovations

The centre and outdoor rink will be fixed up, and new wheelchair-accessible change rooms and bathrooms installed. The plumbing, heating and electrical wiring will also be redone, and the ice surface will be getting new boards.

Saint Johners And Others Are Stuck In Boston

A number of Saint Johners are in Boston today, many of them having travelled down for the Fleetwood Mac 
concert. Jody Wheaton works for Valley Concrete and he tells CHSJ News the lock-down has turned the normally busy city into a ghost town.

He says when they got back to the hotel they heard a lot of sirens all night and today he can only see a couple of people on the street.

Former Acadia Broadcasting employee Andrea Henderson tells us it's been maddening trying to get around.

She says all the buses and shuttles and every form of transportation are shut down.

Wheaton says he's been nothing but impressed with the strength of the city in this senseless situation.

BREAKING: Boston, Watertown Neighbourhoods In Lockdown As Search For Suspect Continues


The world is watching Boston as the hunt continues for the surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings. 

Governor Deval Patrick is telling the residents of Boston, Watertown and 5 other neighbourhoods to stay inside.

The suburb of Watertown has a huge police presence with armoured vehicles and a swat team in one area. 


A witness saw fresh blood in the area and police have been heard yelling at a building to come out. 

Police are also conducting searches in the Cambridge area where the two suspects lived.

The two suspects are from Chechnya but have lived in the US since the early 2000's.
The older brother, a 26 year old, was killed in a gunfight overnight.
 

A 26 year old MIT police officer was killed in his car. 

The search continues for 19 year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

Assessment For Man Charged In Prince William St Death Will Take Longer

A doctor has requested more time to perform a mental health assessment on a Saint John man accused of aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

35 year old Nicholas Logan is charged in the death of 66 year old Duncan MacDonald. He and MacDonald both lived at a rooming house on the corner of Duke and Prince William, where the older man was seriously injured after a March 16th incident. He died in hospital on April 10.

Logan has been undergoing a mental  assessment in Restigouche requested more time. He's set to reappear on May 14th.

BREAKING: Guns Are Drawn On A Watertown Mass Building


The manhunt continues in Boston for 19 year old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev .   He is one of two brothers from Chechnya accused of orchestrating the Boston Marathon bombing.  The other brother killed in a massive gunfight with police overnight.

Law enforcement officials says the brothers have para-military training.   The situation described as tense as you can imagine adding the person who was carjacked overnight says the men identified themselves as the Boston marathon bombers.

The brothers uncle Ruslan Sarni tells Boston media one of the suspects came to the US in the early 2000's.
A friend describes them as regular American kids.

Police are urging residents to remain inside with their doors locked and to not answer their doors except to uniformed officers.
All public transit in those areas is halted, businesses are asked to stay closed and all Boston public schools will be closed today.

There is a large police presence in the neighbourhood of Watertown, Massachusetts.   One witness reported fresh blood in the area and police have guns drawn on a building and have been heard yelling at the building for someone to come out.

BREAKING NEWS......Suspect In Boston Marathon Explosions Shot And Killed

Police say one of two suspects in the shooting of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer who also was wanted in the Boston Marathon explosions is dead after a shootout. He was 26 years old.

A massive manhunt is underway for another, who is believed to be tied to the Boston Marathon bombing. He's 19 years of age and was wearing the white cap on backwards.

Shortly after the M-I-T officer was shot dead, police got a report of a carjacking in Cambridge, just outside Boston. There was also a convenience store robbery.

 Police say describe the man they're looking for as a terrorist.
    

The MIT shooting on the Cambridge campus Thursday night was followed by reports of violence and explosions in nearby Watertown, about 16 kilometres west of Boston.

The Associated Press reports the two bombing suspects are from Chechnya and CBS is saying they are brothers.

Arson Suspected In Fire At One Mile Interchange

A suspicious fire at the One Mile Interchange construction site is now being investigated by the Major Crime Unit as well as the fire department. 

Fire crews were called late Wednesday night to what was called a set fire in a storage trailer containing an estimated 60 thousand dollars worth of equipment. 

There was extensive damage.

Fredericton Man Rolls Up The Rim And Gets A Car

We are dream of it but for a Fredericton man it actually happened.     He rolled up the rim walking away with a new car.

Dale Stickles of Fredericton bought the winning coffee at the Tim's location in Grand Bay-Westfield and he won this year's grand prize the 2013 Rav4. There will be a presentation this afternoon.

If you have any Roll Up The Rim To Win prizes hanging around..they must be claimed by May 19th.

North End Street Closed Because Of Falling Rock

A rock fall in the north end will disrupt traffic. 

The city letting us know eastbound traffic on Wright Street east of Spruce is closed.
 

That means ff you're driving eastbound, you'll have to make a left turn to Spruce, then right to Seeley Street, go straight down to Allison Road and then make a right turn to Gilbert Street.
