Busy Weekend For Saint John Police Department

City Police getting 300 calls for service over the weekend, including being called to a home on Douglas Avenue for a dispute over property.

Sergeant Jay Henderson says police were speaking to the man they believe made the call, when he pointed what looked to be a handgun at the officers. Henderson says they quickly pushed it out of his hands and the 53-year-old man was taken into custody.

After examining the handgun, police discovered it was a BB gun. The man is facing charges of assault and assaulting a peace officer by pointing a weapon.

Officers also searching a home on Tilley Avenue and finding pot, hashish and a weapon. A 31-year-old man has been arrested and is facing charges of possession of drugs and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Henderson says they're still looking for a car stolen in the early morning hours on Friday from an address on Rodney Street on the West side. It's a black 2013 Nissan Sentra with the New Brunswick license plate J-E-L 7-3-8.
