Two Members Of Common Council Support New Police Contract

At least two members of Common Council are satisfied with the new three year contract agreement between the Saint John Police Association and Police Commission.

Councillor Gerry Lowe has had years of experience in negotiating contract agreements and calls it a good deal for both sides.
He claims the wage increase of 12 per cent over three years isn't excessive when you consider City police officers had no wage increase for two years so it really amounts to 12 per cent over 5 years.

Councillor John MacKenzie also calling it a good agreement because it avoids arbitration and arbitrators have a history of being free and easy with taxpayer money.
